Title: "Point-wise behavior of the Geman–McClure and the Herbert–Leahy image restoration models"

Abstract: In this talk I present some joint work with Petteri Harjulehto and Juha Tiirola. We present a new continuous framework for understanding the minimization of variational integrals with various non-convex potentials, including the Geman–McClure model and the Hebert-Leahy model used in image restoration. Our new idea is to use a smooth convolution to solve the problem of nonexistence of minimizers. We show that these integrals converge to the Mumford-Shah functional as the convolution parameter tends to zero.
