Abstract: In this joint work with Prof. António Patrício, we start from an interval transformation and seek to extend its dynamical caracteristics to a surface transformation. Classicaly, this is usually done using a suspension of the original mapping under a height function. Unfortunately such a process does not, in general, preserve the dynamical invariants nor yields a pseudo-Anosov diffeomorphism.
We obtain such an example by adapting a construction of T.Fitzkee and by using seminal techniques of G.Rauzy and W.Veech. Obstructions to the generalization of our construction will be discussed.
