The main goal of this talk is to present (logarithmic) contact geometry as a way to study singularities of surfaces. We start by giving a small introduction to singularities, equisingularity, resolution of singularities and contact geometry. We proceed to study limits of tangents of surfaces and present the main result, an algorithm to compute the limits of tangents of any surface. We obtain as a byproduct of this algorithm an embedded version of Jung's desingularization theorem for surface singularities with finite limits of tangents.
